Our diversity is what makes us great

I love the diversity of our nation and that I grew up with so many Portuguese, Mexicans, Indians and white people of distant German, Irish and Native American decent.  I went to college and grew more with people of different races and religions.  I've lived in New York, which is even more diverse than anywhere else I have lived and now I live Nashville.  The diversity of our country is part of what it makes it great place to live.  The US has always been a place where people from all over the world have moved in search of a better life for themselves and their decedents.  I see a lot of fear from people who feel like they have claim to the US and that other people are "the others" who don't belong here.  But the fact that there are so many people who live here and speak other languages and have other customs and foods and traditions is makes the beauty of our diversity something to be desired.  We should celebrate our diversity, rather than categorize others based on it.
